Web Application Developer – Develop web sites for small business.  Advise client on alternate approaches, implement/modify web pages and applications, help client maintain site long term.

·        PHP Website: Created new website for landscaper to expand business by showcasing his best work.  Chose from hundreds of photos to make several stories to illustrate problems solved, interviewed landscaper to create inviting copy to highlight details.  Developed PHP template to speed development.  See NII-Landscape.com.

·         Data-driven questionnaire: Fixed online patient daily diary for pain management study.  Improved questionnaire completion rate by color coding calendar and adding progress indicator bar, populating these features via information queried from the database.  Solved problem of excessive download time for a data-heavy page by switching to AJAX for query of only relevant data as needed.  Worked with team to specify best plan for changes, coordinated with database developer, modified existing PHP and JavaScript code, and updated online help to describe new features.

·         E-commerce: Created online PHP e-commerce web application, giving event photographers a way to post and sell their photos as a business on the web.  Researched 3rd party packages, installed and configured PhotoPost on a Linux web host, created custom header and footer, created "catalog bar" enabling visitors to place orders via Yahoo Store, created XML order generator utility to place orders with the photo lab.

·         Perl/CGI forms: Improved SJSU herbarium on-line search for faster navigation.  New version shows more information on the intermediate search results page, saving page views necessary to get to desired plant details.  See www.sjsu.edu/depts/herbarium.

·         Rush Job! Updated clothing designer's website in a hurry.  Client had photos of new products ready to add to website, needed them in a week for vendor meeting, but her existing web developer was unavailable.  I added her new photos, modified a page template to contain images for a new product line, and created a new composite image, all with no downtime to her existing website and completed on time.  See mannikkins.com.

·         Content Management System: Moved trainer's website to a CMS, allowing more functionality and easier updating.  Converted and posted streaming video, configured mailing list manager, embedded Flash movie, added stock photos and set up Amazon affiliate page.  See achievexcorp.com.

Web Application Developer – Developed and maintained web-based information search and retrieval system used by HP's global sales force.  Updated web site and automated processes using Perl/CGI scripts in a UNIX environment.

·         Designed and implemented new web site user registration system with external business partner.  The new version automatically authenticated potential users against the corporate employee directory, eliminating a one-day turnaround to manually authenticate users.

·         Converted weekly user contact information update process from proprietary database access to LDAP access, reducing run time from eight to under two hours.

·         Designed and implemented user account aging system for the web site, including automatic e-mail notification to users allowing them a grace period to log in and save their accounts.  This freed up half the disk space formerly used to store unused accounts, increased batch job speeds by 40%, and made our statistics more accurately reflect our actual user base.
